Apple’s iPhone: overexposed, overhyped

I’m the first to admit: the iPhone is a cool device, but… it’s beginning to suck big time. There’s too much to do about it, it’s overhyped and overexposed. Apple’s marketing department should take action by start working on a diversion plan to save it’s image….

In the meantime we’ll be waiting for the first Android phone (GPhone maybe?).

Ok, so this is easily the most fluffy, totally devoid of substance blog post I\’ve read today. Heck, for the past month. Bravo sir. If only there was an epic stupidity trophy, you\’d be sitting pretty.

@Clue: just bought an iPhone and a bit disappointed ’cause the whole world has one and the cool factor is gone?

Keep in mind when posting a comment: At this site we bash gadgets, not each other.

Thanks

Your bashing should stick to gadgets that suck. The iPhone DEVICE is quite a marvel, though it could have a few more cool features that remain MIA. The real problem is the Apple-AT&T partnership. For there to be hundreds standing in line for this thing 5-6 days after it’s introduction because of the forced in-store sign-up with AT&T is the real crime here. Apple should have never made it exclusive to any carrier. They got it right with iPhone 1.0 in allowing people to walk in, buy their phone, go home and activate it.

The AT&T partnership sickens me and I’d love to just say “screw it” but I love the device and now with the iPhone App store open, it just got exponentially better. So, I will help you boo AT&T and even Apple for bending over and giving in to AT&T’s demands for in-store sign up but there’s no way I’m going to bash this device. All of the bashers are even bigger sheep than the ones standing in line to get one just because everybody else wants it. I use one and know its merit. In my experience all the sheep doing the bashing never spent more than a minute with the device, if even that.

@Kevinobee: thank you for the comment. We agree with you all the way, but must clarify our opinion about the iPhone. There\’s no doubt the device itself is – as you call it – a marvel. It\’s interface, the user experience, the design and it\’s features are very very good, and maybe even revolutionary. Yes… we use one too. :)
As a device it\’s a very good product… but does that make it a cool gadget? And, that\’s our point: the over hyping and the fact that everyone has or wants one, makes it less of a wannahave. Gadgets should have a kind of exclusive aura hanging around it… the aura, in our opinion, is fading with the iPhone. This has nothing to do with the device itself. It\’s all marketing. That\’s the reason the iPhone is listed here.
